I have been engraving acrylic many times now, and received a lot of questions.
I’m not a pro, and really don’t claim to be…
I hope you CNC fanatics learn from me, and I hope to learn from you.
My way of engraving Acrylic is shown in the next video.
If you have any comments, tips and tricks, or still some questions, use the comment area below.
Maybe we can add some of the input in this post to get a real tutorial..

[..YouTube..] What collet have you got that bit installed to?
[..YouTube..] Amazing, amazing amazing…..I really like to? see your creations.
[..YouTube..] Fantastic? work.
[..YouTube..] @jjacstcy Its a 1/8th inch collet, or 3,175mm in metric…One of the most used collets i have..
[..YouTube..] @piniw5 and @radioshack7 Thanks !! Nice to hear…..
[..YouTube..] Hey man, nog steeds lekker bezig zie ik !Filmpjes zien er steeds beter uit en je werk was al top !Greetz
[..YouTube..] a 1/8th single flute cutter??? strange why that sort of cutter? is it a cutter with plastic or aluminium specific geometry? And what sort of tool life do you get out of the engraving bit? And have you considered High Speed Steel bits, I believe they are meant to be sharper than carbide, (or maybe thats just coated carbides)
[..YouTube..] @RegEditzZz Uiteraard 🙂 CNC werk is verslavend hoor…
[..YouTube..] @ibainesy Well why this cutter? because i bought a whole bunch of them… :)I found singel flute to have the best results, and indeed a bigger spiral to shoot out the chips fast…But its full carbide? cutter, so no sticky coating. Same apply’s to VHM, use blank ones, not coated with like Tialnbut if you have 2 cutters, and one of them is sharper… go for it..And remember, what i say is not based on whats really best, its just my experience, and i try to learn from all your input to..
[..YouTube..] Hi. That is great job! Let me ask you who writes all those commands for CNC machine or it just programs itself after a picture analyzing? Thanks in advance!
[..YouTube..] @GEK69NY Designs can be convertede to cnc code (named : G-code) by CAM software. But there are a lot of good programs that combine design, simulate, and code.Take a look at Artcam, or vectric v-carve, vertric aspire etc.?
[..YouTube..] Other wards you don’t have to be an engineer to do all that nice job, am I right? Thanks!
[..YouTube..] @GEK69NY That’s right….. Although i do think that its best to? understand G-code…If something strange happens you can find out whats the problem…But indeed Learning to work with Photoshop is much more difficult then engraving a led sign… 🙂
[..YouTube..] Very well done, may I ask where you get the extruded light bases? Thanks,Dave
[..YouTube..] Chambonea, dale chambonea.? Great!
[..YouTube..] @eFalegname Google can not help me translate this one…. 🙂 But thanks anyway 😉
[..YouTube..] Felicidades por tu trabajo, que perfil usas para colocarle los leds?
[..YouTube..] @qiubolesque Perfil Led en China. No tengo ninguna relación directa más desafortunado.
[..YouTube..] What lighting kits/fixtures are you using?

@firefoxik75 Did you read all on the ‘Full info link” ? The profiles are from redsun china. dont know if you could buy a small part, i did a 500$ shipment… Never seen them anywhere else, or i do not know the right search keywords… Good luck..

lOVE, LOVE, LOVE THIS.
Can’t wait to learn how to do it and get started.
Cheers

Haha Thanks Wolffie !
you can eliminate a lot of issues if you use RASTER
Hi there… Thank you for your input… If you look closely to the video i use both raster, and contour toolpaths.. In my ‘opinion’ both suit a different purpose… and are chosen accordingly. But i use raster most of the times indeed,

I have a Honda 450 Rebel for trade for a CNC machine if anyone willing. ljmaddox@gmail.com
How well does this work in outdoors? I live in a tropical climate with a lot of pollution that affects plastic. could I put glass over the acrylic to protect from the elements?
Hi Lennie, Yes for outdoors you could use a different profile (Check my other video’s on acrylic ). Glass would not effect the engraving or the light, so i think this would be fine.

Hi, I’m trying to make large acrylic panels with leds on its edged and engrave on top of it with a drill bit (I have no lasser CNC Router for example)… I’ve tried many different ways and wasted already some big money but can’t make a good illumination. Is there something I’m missing while engraving? I’ve tried with panel printing (white ink) but I haven’t been successful… PLEASE HELP ME!!! the acrylic plates are 7.8×3.9 ft and 0.65 inches thick…
Wonderful!
Photoshop is very time consuming to learn and I don’t think I have the patience to learn this and also PhotoVCarve – (’n beetje boven my pet) I am fully au fait with Corel Draw – can this be some form of substitute? (sorry my Dutch has faded over the years outside the country.)
Ik ben 78 jaar en heb niet meer zo veel kracht over maar ik wil nog steeds graag meedoen aan deze
hobby – zit in ’n rystoel maar kom goed by de masjiene – als ik iets gemaakt hebt zal ik het laten zien..
My main aim is to use a normal jpeg or bmp photo file and try and make these into nice relief carvings –
I like doing birds and animals.
Thank you for all the hints and tuition – this is a terrific site, I’m glad i found it.
Hi Snr Carver and thanks for your nice comment !
To make it easy I will answer in English, but I do love the effort you did in speaking dutch again, thumbs up.
Photoshop, PhotoVcarve and coreldraw can not be compared to each other i’m afraid.
Photoshop is to retouch or color-correct and resize images for example. (For your projects not really needed).
Coreldraw can be very handy in CNC world, as the output can be set to vectors and can be used to engrave or design CNC work.
But you mention to want to carve jpegs and bitmaps, I think their is only one easy solution, and that is PhotoVcarve from Vectric.com.
I have made a tutorial video, I do think you should have a look at this page : https://www.robocnc.nl/?p=2121
Good luck, and don’t give up if the first try wont work out…
Beste regard, / Met vriendelijke groet,
Marcel
Hoi Robo.Hoe bevestig jij je werkstuk op tafel?Het ziet er uit als dubbelzijdige tape.Groeten, Kees.
Can you tell us how you made the vacumn accessory for your CNC machine?
There is no vacuum accessory to be seen on this page, nor in the video.
I do not understand what you mean.
Please search our website, probably the information you request is already on the website.
buenas noches por favor si le es posible indicar que programa usa para elaborar los diseños gracias
